SoulCollege

Skagit Valley College: Mount Vernon campus

SoulCollage® is an intuitive, fun tool for self-discovery. It is an artistic way to inquire into your Soul and access its’ innate wisdom to gain guidance and support. Developed in the 1980’s, it teaches you how to create a deck of collaged cards highlighting many facets of our lives. Images are gathered from magazines, personal photos or artwork, or other printed materials and can be embellished with other mark-making tools. Students then learn how to use the resulting artwork as a means for providing insight into one’s inner world. The class provides a supportive, non-judgmental space for students to explore their creativity. Each class will involve time for learning more about the process, creating art, and sharing insights

Prerequisite: Basic computer and Internet skills. No additional software needed. We’ll be focusing on still personal and/or professional photographs to create your story.

Digital Storytelling

Skagit Valley College: Mount Vernon campus

Digital stories are short 3-5 minute multimedia movies about a topic that is important to the writer. They combine photographs, video, animation, sound, music, text, and the narrator’s voice. Digital Stories can be used to create a personal story, or for marketing purposes, to promote yourself or your business, or for school projects. They are also an excellent instrument for recording family stories for future generations to enjoy.

Students will learn the steps to crafting an interesting and engaging story. Working with others, you’ll learn to refine, record and upload your story into super user-friendly, easy online digital editing software where you’ll combine your voice-over with other multimedia items, to create a finished story you can be proud of.

Finished stories can be added to a blog, a website, a YouTube channel or simply shared with friends.

Prerequisite: Basic computer and Internet skills. No additional software needed. We’ll be focusing on still personal and/or professional photographs to create your story.

Introduction to WordPress

Through Skagit Valley College

WordPress powers roughly 40% of the sites on the web. It is an amazing tool to help you design and manage your content but it can be daunting to learn until you get to “thinking like the program”. This class and the ones to follow are designed to be hand’s on so participants can be building or working on their own sites as we go along. In this class you’ll learn the pros and cons of using the self-hosted version of WordPress vs. the online WordPress.com version. Learn how to choose and register a domain name, how to choose a hosting provider, how to install WordPress onto your self-hosting server and begin to explore a theme or look for your site. Upon completion, you will know the steps to be up and running for the start of the WordPress Level 1 class. You are welcome to bring a WiFi capable laptop or use one of the college’s computers.

Prerequisite: Basic computer and Internet skills.

Bio for Art Classes

Digital Storytelling entered my life in 2006 when I took my first class. Immediately afterwards I introduced and taught the process to teens at the Oxbow Summer Art Program and have since completed the StoryCenter’s Digital Storytelling Facilitator training at their headquarters in Berkeley, CA.

As a professional artist, teacher and explorer of various avenues of personal growth, I discovered and fell in love with the SoulCollege™ process. Since completing the SoulCollege™ facilitator training in 2014, I have introduced the process to many people and continue to be amazed at the creativity and discovery that unfolds in those interactions.

Bio for Computer Classes

As a graphic designer for over 25 years, I have grown with the industry from paste up's to Adobe Creative Suite, the industry-standard software, which includes Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator. I started web design with Dreamweaver but now work solely with Wordpress.

For the past five years I've brought my knowledge and experience into the classroom to share with other's who want to learn these programs to advance professionally or create art or improve their photography skills. I am certified through Adobe's Train the Trainer program.
